REI Super announces three new Member Elected Directors

REI Super, one of the first industry super funds in Australia and ranked 8th best performing fund for the year ended 30 June 2021, is one of only a few industry funds to have Member Elected Directors on their Board of Trustees. 

A call for nominations from the Fund’s membership to fill three Member Elected Director positions was conducted and this was followed by contested nominations for the New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria & Tasmania electorates.

The election process to fill these contested positions concluded on Friday 27 August 2021.  

REI Super’s Independent Chair, Claire Higgins today announced the three successful candidates:

  • Nathan Jones – VIC & TAS electorate 

Nathan is Chief Executive Officer of the Buxton Real Estate Group with an extensive background and expertise in real estate banking and finance from previous positions held at Macquarie Bank and NAB. 

“I’m extremely excited to be working with the entire REI Super team and very much looking forward to joining the Board.” 

  • Cassandra Mason – WA & SA electorate 

Cassandra has an impressive 21+ years’ experience within the property industry and is currently a Partner & Head of Property Management at Arena Real Estate. 

“I am proud and enthused to be able to join the REI Super Board of Trustees and being able to contribute to its further growth.” 

  • Leanne Pilkington – NSW & ACT electorate

Leanne is Chief Executive Officer & Director of Laing + Simmons, has been President of REINSW for the past 4 years and is a current Board Member of REIA. Leanne also created the networking group, Real Women in Real Estate. 

“Super is such an important conversation, and one so many people don’t focus on as early as they should.  The opportunity to work with the REI Super Board to continue to get the message out to our industry is one I am very much looking forward to.” 

Claire Higgins expressed her congratulations to Nathan, Cassandra and Leanne who will hold office as Member Elected Directors for a four-year term from 1 October 2021. “These new Directors will further diversify the board by increasing female representation and will also contribute a broad range of skills and industry knowledge.”

“Having Member Elected Directors on our Board means that our Directors truly represent our membership and bring a wealth of knowledge of the real estate industry,” said Higgins. 

Higgins went on to say, “The board are excited to welcome our newly appointed Directors as we continue to strive to achieve better retirement outcomes for our members and remain one of the top performing funds”. 

REI Super will also farewell three Member Elected Directors who have made significant contributions over a lengthy period of time in Greg Paterson, Ian Armstrong and Neville Pozzi who will be concluding their terms as of 30 September 2021. 

Higgins went on to thank Greg, Ian and Neville for their dedication and untiring efforts. She said “REI Super has seen enormous growth during the tenure of these Directors’ who have tirelessly given their time, knowledge and expertise to achieve better retirement outcomes for our members. We wish them all the very best”. 

REI Super was recently ranked 8th best performing super fund across Australia for their MySuper Balanced option returning 20.0% for the year ending 30 June 2021.
