From director of first impressions to CEO at Stockdale & Leggo

posted on 02.02.2022
Charlotte Pascoe, like most of us, started out in working life not really knowing where she was headed or what she wanted to do.

‘When I left school I tried a number of jobs, I did anything and everything I could think of to find the space that I could love. I did courses, worked in hospitality, in pubs, in retail and a stint in TV production. In telemarketing I did quite well – so much so I was the leading salesperson for Palm Cove holidays in Queensland back in the early 2000’s. All good experience but I really wasn’t getting anywhere in terms of a career.’

Finding her way

‘One day mum said to me, you’d be good at real estate. So, I got out the yellow pages (that’s what you did back then before the internet) looked up agents in our area and gave Hocking Stuart a call. I went in for an interview, got the job that day, and started work as the receptionist the following day. It was fate!’

‘Pretty quickly, I worked out that I loved real estate and wanted to learn more. I got my Agents Rep at nights after work, then approached my director and asked if I could work weekends for free so I can gain experience. Looking back on it now, I don’t know why I was nervous about it! Who wouldn’t say yes to someone doing weekends for free! He had a great poker face, pretended to think for a while and then agreed to my request. In all seriousness though, while it did seem to all fall into place for both of us, I have him to thank for giving me an opportunity and starting me on this path.’

‘I threw myself into work as best I could, doing the opens and helping out at every opportunity to earn my stripes. I enjoyed the work, and I think I was pretty good at it on the whole.
Then came a move across to Philip Webb and then Jellis Craig where I really solidified my skills and knowledge. Mid-career, doing well, and happy, but it was time for a change……’

Time for a life change

‘Melbourne Real Estate is where I got real experience working as a team to grow a business. Working with very experienced professionals and working on the business as much as working in it. This was also where my telemarketing experience played a role, marketing to international audiences, owners and developers, doing property seminars in Asia, this was one of my favourite roles and places to work. We were focussed, successful with a sophisticated referral network and getting recognition, earning a gong in BRW as one of the fastest growing businesses at the time.’

‘I went on to work for a Singapore based company for a few years following this helping to grow their International and Australian footprint – a massive eye-opening journey that gave me unique experiences, a huge amount of business knowledge and skill set to equip me for what was next.’

‘June 2018 my son was born, and I was recruited by Stockdale & Leggo to come in and grow and develop the group. The franchise management side of things in particular was challenging, yet so unbelievably rewarding. Like any business, there are legacy practices and great innovations that needed to be brought together to complement each other rather than work against each other. That said, Stockdale & Leggo is one of the industry’s most iconic brands, 85 years strong, everyone knows it, it just needed a clear direction. I had ideas and am so honoured to have been given the opportunity to deliver on them as CEO.’
